Shop Local

blog post image

The benefits of shopping local are numerous, not only for the consumer but also for the rest of your community. These benefits include: creating local jobs, more environmentally friendly, better customer service and helps to build your community. Therefore, in order for your community to survive it's essential that one of these vital ingredients includes an encouragement to shop local with small businesses and traders.

The competition

However, evidence has shown that many previous shop local campaigns to encourage the community to shop local have not amounted to much more than a feel good message and later diminish without any real lasting success. This is because consumers are looking for more than a feel good excuse to change their shopping habits and most of the larger retail business know this and as a result spend millions on persuading customers to shop with them instead.

Lacking community spirit

Many of these unsuccessful shop local campaigns lack community spirit because they stand alone and never really "connect" with the wider community. A successful shop local campaign should not only encourage the community to shop local but also helps to solve community problems. One of these community problems is transport. Transport is a vital element for the survival of any community and without it your community can quickly become very isolated. Transport for the community is a series of new projects that help overcome issues and funding cuts to sustain transport services for members of the community.

Making a new start and standing together

A shop local message that supports solving community problems, such as transport, has a greater chance of survival. A community that stands together, not just for small businesses, but for the whole community connects and unites everyone and makes the community spirit stronger. Making a new start and standing together to shop regularly with local small businesses and traders will help to sustain transport services and help to build your community
